Do I need to renew my CPR and First Aid certification before it expires?

Yes. Renewal before your certificate expires ensures you remain compliant with workplace safety requirements. Recertification also refreshes your skills and updates you on any changes to guidelines. Most certifications in Nova Scotia are valid for three years, but some professions require earlier renewal.

What’s the difference between Basic (Emergency) and Intermediate (Standard) First Aid?

Emergency First Aid is a one-day course covering essential lifesaving skills for common emergencies. Standard First Aid is a two-day, more comprehensive program that includes additional topics such as injury management, medical conditions, and environmental emergencies. Your choice should match your workplace requirements or personal learning goals.

Most Standard/Intermediate First Aid certifications are valid for 3 years. BLS certifications are typically 1 year. Always follow your employer’s requirements.
